A 1920s House with a Modern Twist in Portland, Oregon
Interior designer Jessica Helgerson completely remodels a family home without losing its historic charm
Interior designer Jessica Helgerson completely transformed this 1920s home in Portland, Oregon, into a comfortable yet stylish space for a family of five. The gray exterior is integral color stucco (which means the pigment is mixed into the stucco, thereby eliminating the need for painting). Just off the living room is a terrace with a brick fireplace that looks original but, like almost everything else in the home, is newly constructed.
A colorful Turkish Oushak rug from

and a handblown-glass pendant light by
Rothschild & Bickers
are the sole decorative touches in the entryway—all the better to show off the custom railing and herringbone wood floors.
