How To Choose Window Treatments

Window treatments are a big thing to consider when designing a space. There are tons of options to choose from that have different purposes and functions. When selecting window treatments for clients, we consider several questions to make sure we get it right. You probably ask yourselves the same (and more!) questions when thinking about it for yourselves. Do they need to block light, create privacy, or just look pretty? Do they need to be the same throughout the house, or can you switch them up? Can you layer more than one option? Today we are answering all your questions about how to choose the right window treatments for your home.

First things first: do you need to select the same window coverings throughout your home? The answer is no! Each space has different functions, and therefore different needs when it comes to privacy, light, and aesthetic. We always consider our client's needs in each room individually when selecting window treatments, so don't feel like what you select in your living room has to apply to your dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms. However, as with other design aspects, you DO want to make sure the rooms flow together (ie: it's best to not select cheap blinds in one room and high-end custom drapery panels in the next). Select options that, even though they are different, feel like a good fit when traveling from room to room.

Our Favorite Picks from the Shade Store is a great place to start if you're looking to purchase custome shades for your home.

Woven Wood Shades

We Woven Wood Shades because they are a neutral window covering that adds warmth and looks good with any style. We use them in all types of spaces, and often layer them with pretty drapes to create a more thoughtful, luxe look. Don't forget to have them lined if you privacy; if they are left unlined they will be somewhat sheer. We have these in our studio and they are motorized, which we love because it makes sending them up and down a breeze!
